Sainsubrys have charged us twice! Bank wont refund overpayment......

We spent £9.48 at our local sainsburys on May 30th (shows as June 1st on bank statement). A few transactrions down there is another charge of £9.48 to sainsburys! We only shopped there once, so they have obviously processed our transaction twice.
We contacted Abbey who sent us out a form to sign to confirm we did not authorise the transaction. We have since received a letter from Abbey saying they cannot refund the amount as their records show that the payment was made using our card and pin number - well obviously it was, but only once!

Should we contact Sainsburys directly, or should the bank be dealing with this??

Go to Sainsburys with all the evidence I'm sure you will at least be refunded and some sort of apology.

I had this when I shopped at Morrisons once. Yes the bank refused to do anything about it, morrisons had to investigate then refund. It took a couple of weeks but I did get my money back.

Which card did you pay with was it a debit card. I would write a letter of compalint to Abbey and send a copy to Sainsbury's and I would ask them to resolve the matter within 14 days otherwise you could then take the matter to court.

I used to work on their customer services desk, go there with your bank statement clearly marked out in advance. They will contact the duty manager for you to discuss it further with him/her.
