Can I get a good bike for under £150? :)

Hey guys, Looking for a bike under £150.00 online or off the highstreet... Nothing special just a suspension (front or full) to get me to and from work. I've seen a few between 100-150 that seem ok but wondering if anyone was purchased one in this price bracket and been happy with it
Kind regards.

Check out Halfords, they have a fair few decent bikes there for fairly cheap.0

wait for the sale! Best to get advice if your spending a fair bit on a bike (tescos have bikes from £50 but not sure if I would rate them as the best bikes around IYSWIM!)
Decide on what you want in a bike, if you have lots of hills to ride up and need lots of gears, or ride on roads (pot holes) and need it to cope with that without comming lose or want it to bend as its not safe to lock it up for example, or get advice on what you need from somewhere like Evans, then shop around. Even top bike stores have 50% off bikes and a bike around £300 reduced to £150 would be well worth it from somewhere like that as proper bike stores tend to stock decent bikes as they don't want to get bad rep for selling badly made things.0 -
I can highly recommend the Raleigh mens bike from Costco if you are fortunate enough to have one near you. It cost me £135 10 months ago. I use it for a 15 mile round trip to work almost everday. It has not let me down. Its more than paid for itself. It has front suspension and is ideal for light off road work too.0

I'm new to cycling and just bought a bike off ebay. I checked prices out for a little while and pretty much knew what I was after. I would suggest getting better second hand than new for £150, search google for bike shaped object or BSO for some information.There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.0

Try toys'r'us. My dad got me one from there last xmas. I'm 5'7" & its perfect. It has full suspension & is white & dark purple with butterflies and flowers on it (nice, not tacky! lol). Don't know if its an adults one or just anm older childs one, but it only cost £89!! Worth a look!

Have you tried checking out your local 'one man band' type cycle shops? I bought a cracking bike last year for 50 quid and it is great value for money as it was one of the last ones made by raleigh before they moved abroad. They serviced it for me and put new brakes on, pumped up the tyres etc and gave me a free map of the local area with cycle routes on. I got such good service I will definitely go back when it needs a service.
I don't think the biks form places like Halfords and Tesco are all that good quality for what you are paying, while i was in the shop a guy came in as his pedal had snapped and the guy said it wasn't worth fixing (even though he gave him some spare nuts and bolts FOC) as the metal is very weak.
As you are going on the roads I would strongly suggest this way of buying as it is safer, after all you wouldn't drive out in a dodgy car that hadn't been serviced...Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000
Save £12k in 2013 no.34 £11,800/£12,000

Total=£29,100

In York we have the bike rescue project - they take donated bikes and repair them and resell them. It has a great local reputation.:money:
Anything like this in your area?:jFlylady and proud of it:j0
