Thanks, i was filling in box 16 for the £998 but i've just done as you mentioned and filled in box 12 instead and got the same result!
Brilliant thank you very much for your help :T
Actually reading the notes for the form gives a different answer, but the same net result.
The notes for SA102 say put the difference between amount reimbursed and amount allowed to be claimed in box 17,
But for Box 16 the amount reimbursed it just says "see note below" So I think all you need to fill in is box 17.
Like I say its the same net result,He's not an accountant - he's a charlatan0 -
Hi
I really need some help.
I used my own car for 2008/2009 and I have to complete a self assesment becasue is to high for a P87.
I did 24,000 miles which comes to £7,500 of which my company paid me via expenses £3226 leaving me to claim £4274. Having spent 2 hours on the phone to the help line I am no clearer in getting the end figure to what it should be.
I entered £3226 (what I received from my work) into the box headed expenses payments received & balanicing charges
then £4272 (the amount I want to claim back) in the box business travel & subsitence expenses. When I go to the calculation at the end it say's I am owed £209. They guy on the hepline number sais it is a technical fault on line, I'm not convinced I think he gave up becasue he couldn't help.
Any help would be really appreciated. :mad:0 -
you are allowed
10,000 miles at 40p per mile = 4000.00 £
14,000 miles at 25p per mile = 3500.00 £
Total 7500.00 £
minus amount already reimbursed - £3226 = £4274.
so you are claiming for the tax 4274 @ 20% = £ 854.80 due back.
reading the notes from HMRC I think you only need to complete box 17 / business travel and subsitence expenses.

Hi
Thank you for replying, am I being a bit thick?
I received the following from my company -
first 10,000 miles @27p and the remainder at 15pm and 12p.
Because I thought you were entitled to 40p and 25p I had to claim the remainder that my company hadn't paid me back from the goverment. Am I completely wrong and only get the tax back????0 -
Hi
Sorry I made an error the first 10,000 miles I cliamed I received from my company 13p not 27p.0
