Filing for bankruptcy from overseas

It is looking likely that I may have to file bankruptcy in the UK. I am currently living in Canada though I was wondering if anybody had any experience in doing this from overseas.
Is this going to have an effect on my account here or just my Uk accounts?
What happens with regards to attending court?
What is the best process for approaching this?

I do not have any expert advice to offer just to say we find ourselves in the same boat.

We have been out of the UK for less than 3 years so can get someone else to present the bankruptcy for us to the high court in London. There are companies that can do this but I haven't found any recommendations for any specific one. I am looking at 'Bankruptcy from Abroad', 'My Vesta' and 'Bankruptcy Advisory Service', all have informative websites. Most of the basic info I got from ww.insolvency.gov.uk. Bankruptcy is an expensive business with court costs £510 each plus fees if using a company which are about £700. I find it bizarre that we are trying to save money so we can afford to go bankrupt.
