Equifax Credit Report Question
Hi everybody. I recently got suckered in by a credit broker whilst trying to get a £5000 loan for a new car, pay off credit card etc. I paid the £50 admin fee, but was then told that I had been turned down for a loan by all of the lenders they use.
I thought it was a bit strange, seeing as I'm in full time employment, never defaulted and pay all of my bills on time.
The broker then suggested I get a credit check done to see where the problem lay - which I did.
When my Equifax report turned up in the post, I was quite interested to find that not only were my previous addresses listed, but several of my twin brother's were too, and many of the occurances of his name had alerts next to them where debt collection agencies had tried to trace him. This is obviously where the problem lies with my own loan application, but surely the loan companies can see that this is not me? We have different names, but the same birthdate but can they be that dense that they cannot differentiate between two different people?!
Finally, and the real reason I came on here: what can I do about this?
Any advice that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Tom
NB - I have recently spoken to my bro, and he says he is none the wiser because he doesn't owe anything to any firms...

Write to experian and ask for any association with your brother to be removed. Get your brother to get his report too and do the same.
Suggest you then go to your own bank and apply for the loan. Tell the salesperson to mark the application that it will need to be 'manually underwriten' because there are errors on your file and a complicated situation with a twin brother with the same date of birth.
Don't bother trying to make any further online or broker applications - you will simply get a 'computer says no' response until your record is sorted out.
Good luck
R.Smile, it makes people wonder what you have been up to.
