Tumeric - for colds and cuts

Earlier this year I suffered from a really bad cold, this went on for over two weeks and I tried Night Nurse, Contac Tablets etc. Finally went to the Drs during the 3rd week and was given antibiotics for a week and told to come back if no improvement.

A couple of days later a friend suggested I tried a quarter cup of warm milk with half a teaspoon of tumeric and a pinch of salt. I tried this twice  (not the best tasting drink I've had:rotfl:) and I felt better.

Now this was either due to the antibiotics finally kicking in or maybe tumeric did help - who knows

I was also told by someone else they used tumeric with a little oil on a cut they had instead of antiseptic cream and it helped..

Has anyone else ever used this with good results?

  • Curcumin is the active ingredient you can see what it does simply by reading the headlines. Ordinary, off the spice counter, turmeric is fine, no need to buy it from a health food shop or in capsules.

Thanks Ted_Hutchinson, I wasn't aware of this, I will read the articles in your link. I just purchased turmeric from the supermarket!

What were the antibiotics for? Something specific, I trust?
    Antibiotics aren't effective against viruses.
If you only had a cold, then the antibiotics wouldn't have done anything.

No but it's possible the cucumin would improve immune dysfunction.

I don't know too much about antibiotics but my symptons were going from shivering to very hot through the day, wheezing, really bad cough, sneezing constantly, etc.. This went on with no improvment for over two weeks and my throat got sore due to cough etc..

Got antibiotics for 1st week, still ill and then was given stronger ones a week later.

I didn't keep up the tumeric concoction but wish I had as felt rotten for a long time..
