Help towards BR fees?

Hi,
I've been putting it off for a while but i have no other option. I have around £45k of unsecured debt (loans,cc and negative equity from repossessed house). I am now living in a council house, i am on HB, CTB and IB and dont work.
BR is the only option for me but i can't even afford the fees. Is there anyway round the fees or charities that can help? I have no CC's to put the fees on to, i stopped using them a long time ago!
Also some of the debts are joint with my ex, he knows i am going bankrupt and he was going to go bankrupt also but has now changed his mind (reckons he can dodge the debt! i've given up talking to him about it!) So, my question is, do i feign ignorance and say I have no idea where he is now?

As your on a low income/benefit dependant, you would be able to get a reduction to make the original £500 fee become around £350. Thats as low as they go.

When I was looking into BR I ws told that a few (and I mean a few- like one or two) utility companies sometimes help with BR fees. And if you were working or are still part of a union somewhere, those places may also offer financial help.

A good site I was suggested was turn2us.org (or could be .co.uk) I am not 100% but it could be retail related rather then general (I used to work in retail), but maybe worth a look?
  • ssafa can help if ex forces
  • The utility companys can help with the £360 and you can get the other £160 waived by showing a current Income support letter or low income proof.
The gas and electic companies do the other as a grant, British Gas, EDF and the rest have a fund, so contact your supplier.
also you could try the DWP for a grant or loan as it will make your living conditions better.
