Bottle tombola

Hi, this is my first post, so I hope I don't sound daft! I am on my dd's pta and have the task of stocking up the bottle tombola for the summer fair in 2 weeks. Does anyone know of any 3 for £20 beers or cheap wine etc? Need as many bottles for as little money that you would like to win on a tombola, lol..

I agree with coxy. Lots of bottles of absolutely anything with a couple of 'good' ones eg bottles of whiskey to encourage folks to try. Also what often happens is the number for one of the good ones is 'accidently' left out until half way thro to ensure all good prizes dont go early on!! fill up with lots of cheap bottles, kids think its great if they win something no matter what it is! Dont forget bottles of shampoo, bubble bath etc are good to use too!

I have organised lots of bottle tombolas at school and always ask the school to organise a non uniform day and each child/family is asked to donate a bottle.

Good idea Sammy, must remember that one. Also try asking local shops, most will give something to local schools.

Home bargains always have pepsi or coke or some soft drink on real cheapo deal ;)

I've noticed when i go to Tescos there are lots of wines with "Reduced" stickers on them. Rarely see that but my Tesco in Bow has plenty to satisfy all tastes!! That way you can get a decent brand of wine for the price of a cheap one.
  • My DD2's school has a mufti day/silly hair do day where the cost of participation is a bottle of something. As I am not a drinker, admittedly I refused point blank to do anything of the sort, but they introduced a children's/non-alcoholic one for those who either did not have enough money to fund alcohol or objected on ethical grounds. Most years the piles of bottles that come in not only cover the summer fair but Christmas, Easter and several PTA events in the meantime.

No help to you this year, but perhaps next....?

We did the same thing with cans, called it 'tin tombola'.

To answer the OP's question reasonable wine is to be had in Asda (and I believe Tesco) at 3 for £10 but to pad out the stall go for cheap stuff. They have bottles of shower gel for 19p in Lidl.

I used to ask local supermarkets and other local companies for a donation. I went armed with a letter with the PTA logo explaining the fund raising activity, and plans for the oney raised (so they knew what they were donating to), and also included the charity number of the fund. Plus the school phone number and a contact so they could verify the event.

There was a cola depot near to us and was lucky enough to have crates of coke/sprite donated.

It sometimes helps to phone in advance and find out the right contact, and explain your fund raising event to get them on side.

Timing can be important as some stores have a monthly limit, so get in at the beginning of the month.
