I loved Cambodia and would be delighted to go back but much depends on what kind of holiday you want. I don't know about the beaches in Laos but the ones in Cambodia I am told are'nt as good as the best in Thailand.
How are you planning to travel package or DIY? You can fly with Air Asia from stanstead to Kuala Lumpur and then pick up cheap flights allover South Asia.
I found the people in Cambodia wonderfully welcoming and friendly and never felt in any danger. Things are very cheap and so you get a lot for your money. W went primarily to visit the Ankor Wat temples.

Thanks for that very good information.0 -
Laos is 'inland' no sea beaches, Cambodia great but if you are asking this question my guess is Thailand would suit you better.0

do all 4 ! I am going back home that way through Asia as only got to do Thailand in the 3 weeks I was there.0

This is not fact, but you'll tend to find people start with Thailand before progressing to Indochina. Ease of travel and multiplicity of things to see I guess.
If I hadn't been to any before i'd say Thailand, possibly fitting in a 3/4 day Angkor trip.
However, i've never been to Indochina so other people might have better advice. I am however off to Thailand on Friday for the umpteenth time (stopped counting at 15!) as it's such a wonderful place.0 -
Vietnam... Sorry, that wasn't answering your question at all. I haven't been to Thailand, but a lot of the people I met in vietnam had just come through there. It sounded great. The beaches sound great and the walking through the hill tribes in the northern villages and somewhere where they have tame tigers...
I have a male friend who loved Pattaya (sp?) but some of those touristy places other people have said are very seedy.
How long are you planning on going for and were you after beaches or a travelling experience? If I went back to Vietnam, which I would like to, I wuld also try to fit in Thailand and Cambodia. Laos I haven't heard so many good things about, but that may be a good thing in itself if you wanted somewhere less touristy.0 -
Thanks again, basically i have 6 days to fly from Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) to either of the places i said.
Your comments and advice are as always much appreciated.

I'd do Cambodia then.
Friends recently got back saying it was poorer but more geared up for tourists than Hanoi. I seem to remember that I looked into a boat trip up the mekong Delta to Cambodia, but then didn't get to HCMC.
My feeling would be that six days is plenty to do either place, but not to do more than one, although two days in Bangkok and four days on the beach in Thailand would be an option.0 -

Thanks, normally id be headed straight for the beaches of Thailand, but prior to HCMC ill have just spent 5 days in Nha Trang so was not really that bothered about beaches. Im looking at Cambodia and it really does look like a hidden gem.0 -
