I went to a local auction a few weeks ago with a friend. I was very pleased with my bargains which included a dyson for £10. I can only go during holidays, so was looking forward to going in the Easter holidays. Sadly it has closed down.0

I love auctions. For anyone near Poole , there is one at Salisbury every Friday evening at the building which is a cattle auction during the day (though not in the same room I hasten to add!!), there is one next Saturday in Wimborne and also one next Saturday in Poole (very few bargains there though, as lots of dealers go and they have some fantastic stuff)

Bobbin Village Hall, just outside Sittingbourne,Kent.Free to get in and just register when you are inside .It opens at 10-12a.m. just so you can have a look around and then it starts at 12.00. There are plenty of seating if you want to rest your legs and a tea and coffee hatch on site run by the local village ladies .They do a jolly good sandwich or home made cake as wellpawpurrs wrote:Jackie whereabouts is this? If you want you can buy a catalogue for £1.00 but you are not obliged to. A reall y good couple of hours can be had for free and you may pick up a bargain or two as I did.:D0 -
JackieO - around my area they hold regular auctions; sadly I haven't been able to get to many in the past.
Do take advantage of any preview day (usually the day before) to have a nosey around. Often, there are job lots of boxes that are worthy of a good rummage; then note the lot number! Then, on the day (this is where it's worth that £1 for the cateloge), you'll know when that lot will be coming up and be ready to bid if need be. In my experience, those boxes end up going for £1-£2 and it's amazing what treasures lurk within. Ok, not antiques, after all these autioneers know their stuff. But definately items worth having if you need them for £1
In one £2 box lot, once all the stuff I wasn't interested in was put to the side for the charity shop/tip, I had kept a boxed clock in the style of a china plate, a glass and metal cafetierre, a boxed as-new-teapot in a cup, a cheapy plastic clock which I gave a makeover to. Not bad for two quid

Anyone know of any in the Surrey/South London area or maybe a little bit further afield? Was due to go to Greasbys in Tooting tomorrow but they dont have any of what we were after (laptop/MP3 player) so not bothering. Do know of one in Chertsey called Wellers but point of interest here is that they only sell electrical items to traders and not general public - but they don't mention this on their website. Happened to find this out by chance when I rang to see if OK to take kids (age 13) as wanted MP3 player - that was when they said they couldnt sell that sort of stuff to joe public. Asked why not and apparently to do with health and safety as these items are not tested and not warranted so might be dangerous! Just hope the traders check them out before they sell them on to some poor unsuspecting person!0
