Contents insurance

HI, I wander if anyone can help me with this question?
I am due to renew my contents insurance and whilst doing a few quotes on line have noticed that one of the assumptions they make about you is that you have never been declared bankrupt. (I was in Dec 2008 - had ED June 2009) I wander why this would affect it - as paying upfront not monthly, and also are there any insurance companies that dont make this assumption, or just dont mind?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

There are a few companies that dont seem interested in bankruptcy....the ones that ask may involve a higher premium ... for some reason they think us ex bankruptc are an untrustworthy bunch!! (but if they ask you have to answer truthfull)
Problem is though as I said there are a few (more than...asda....co-op) that bankrupts & indeed discharged ones have secured insurance...but just because they've done ok is not always a guarantee someone else will
you'll have to shop around & try as many as you canWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0 -
Barclays contents insurance told me a few weeks ago that they take Br and also ex Br.So long as you pay, and if you have no bank to do DD then you must pay the whole year upfront.44lb off and 13 to go.:j0

Zurich are "sympathetic" to our needs. I moved to them just 2 weeks ago after Norwich Union decided they couldn't renew me but refused to say why (how on earth will they pay for those big bucks adverts and rebranding to aviva..). Similarly If you have any energy related issues and are in the east anglia region, then EON also seem to have no issues with BR status and won't force you to install a meter (NPower on the other hand are a bunch of tools so avoid at all costs)....
as other posters have said on here, it seems to be very random though, so do some research first, and try all avenues....0 -
My Contents Insurance is with AA, and had to phone for the quote to explain that BR, and was no problem for me!0

My contents is with Birmingham Midshires, i pay a bit more than a tenner a month, cant remember exactly how much cover but its fine for us. They took me no prob and have excellent customer service. Confused.com is a good site to try as at least you only have to answer the questions once and bankruptcy is one of the questions.0
