Letter from Ruthbridge Limited

Hi,

We've been in our new home for over 12 month's now and on Saturday received a letter for 'the occupier' from Ruthbridge Limited, saying to phone them immediately on a freephone number quoting a reference number.

Did a google search on them and can quite obviously see they collect debt.

As the debt will most certainly be of the previous tennant (as we know she did a moonlight) and was quite honestly expecting something like this sooner or later, we need some advice.

The other threads on this whilst helpful seem to actually be related to the person in question where as in our case we know the debt is not ours.

I have no intention of phoning them as it's quite obvious from other threads that they are quite nasty, and have no intention of listening to us.

At the same time i don't really want to give them any personal information as all we know they know at the moment is 'the occupier.'

Should I sign the letter as 'the occupier'

Someone else has told me I should send a letter of the tenancy agreement, but like i say if they don't know who i am, i would rather keep it that way as surely they can't do anything legally that way. Plus does that even proove anything?

I'm just a tad bit worried about coming home one day to find the majority of our possessions removed!!

Are there any template letters we can use that anyone knows of and the best route of communication, I expect them to reply to the letter asking to phone again, but could do with a clear outline of the process to take. The links to letters in previous posts seem to have vanished, so this is why I ask again.

That can't happen, so don't worry.

Even with a court order, bailiffs don't have the powers to do that.

To be honest, I would just not respond at all.

Without any "bite" from their fishing tactics they may just move on. If any correspondence to a named party comes through you can just return it "not known at this address".

Well I sent a letter back telling them to give details of wat the debt amount is and who was chasing it, and gave them a copy of the OFT guidelines on how to contact people regarding this. Pointing out is was unacceptable to contact 'the occupier.'

We've received another letter this morning off them, this time addressed to the previous occupant as we expected. We haven't opened it but can tell it's come from them from the postmark and and the return to address on the back.

Should I just as norma,l write 'not known at this address, RTS' on the envelope as we have been doing with all previous post in this name, or has the time come to write back to say she doesn't live her anymore, if so, what should we include to prove this.

    Thanks.
  • In exactly the same boat as you, wrote them a letter explaining that we wanted them to prove it was us that were liable and they sent a letter back addressed to a tenant from over 3 years ago. We wronte "unknown at this address" and popped it back in the post.
