IPA – The big question -When??

Hi everyone,
I am sure I have read this somewhere and the general answer is that an ipa can be imposed any time before AD, however I just thought that I would ask you kind people, the general timescale that your ipa’s were set up.
This morning me and hubby have received our letters from moonbeever (wot a weird name by the way!) :pfor the NT tax which is due to start some time soon but frankly it is doing my head in not hearing anything from OR about whether a general ipa is also to be set up.
Up to now the only letter I have received frm OR is to tell me that my car is exempt. I haven’t had any queries on the 12 month bank statements sent (which I was definitely expecting some questions) or anything else for that matter. Do you think it is because it is just so busy at the moment? Do you get a letter to say that no IPA is imposed or do you just live in limbo waiting for the postman to bring the bad news at anytime?
The silence is deafening me!

  • We are still waiting for our letter re: the nil tax code and car exemption letter and we went BR at the beginning of April!

We were told if we don't hear anything within three months of our tel interview then we haven't got an IPA, so we are currently in limbo as our interview was at the beginning of May.

I rang the OR office a couple of weeks ago and they couldn't give my any idea when we would receive any of the letters regarding the above.

I'd just like to know where we are with it all and then I'll feel we can move on a bit.

Hi Holes, I remember you were a similar time to me.
I only got the letter from mbeever today so you might get yours soon. Another thing whilst i am in a ranting mood, MB have asked for payslips (past, present and future!!) talk about spyin on earnings eh!. i will have to remember to send them every month now.
It is very frustrating when you want to move on and organise your finances and life. Seems unfair to put people thru this when we have been through so much already going br.

  • So bankruptcy is done, and there was big hint that yep love your surely going to have a IPO, ok so now its 12 months to discharge, and am sure I shall be having Moonbeaver on my tail for the Nil Tax Code money, so if I hear nothing in 12 months if Im reading correctley then no IPO can be charged after discharge?

And why do you have to wait so long for the OR to sort it ? it kinda strings the BR process out longer.

Has anyone ever been told your going to get an IPO but because the OR has taken so long to sort it out then discharge has come and gone and no IPO enforced because of the time etc..:DLucy

  • I went BR during the last week of March. No Nil Tax code, as it was in last tax year. Just had IPA sorted out after a few weeks of challenges. Just waiting receipt of OR signed copy to confirm it is all in place and details of how to pay. IPA was discussed in my initial interview (which for me was straight after hearing), and has been the subject of much correspondence since. I have managed to justify my monthly expendature, though, and am now subject to an IPA that I can realistically afford, and that the OR has no objections to. Bizarrely, when I first began to struggle with payments, and offered reduced payments to creditors, it was for more than my IPA will be. On top of this, the OR charges come out of the IPA, so creditors will get even less. Seems a bit mad....
I guess the answer of when it will be imposed on you (if ever) depends on how your case progresses and as each case is individual, then there is no set rule?

I know it's not much of an answer, but hope it helps....

    Cheers

  • Hi, my husband and I became bankrupt in July 2008 and we sent an income and expenditure form to the OR in November 2008. We have this week (June 2009) final received the IPA that we have been expecting. It was discussed with the OR that we may receive one. Our bankruptcy will be over in July 2009, but we have the IPA to pay for another 3 years and have to inform the OR of any change in circumstances until that is over. The communication from the OR is awful, it's a case of getting on with life the best you can until you hear something! Hope this helps with the timescale thing! Cheers!
  • Blimey Jet what office did you use , seems extremely slow
