i think there are many reasons people go bankrupt... but 95% of it comes down to people being irresponsible or making bad mistakes. the characterisation of bankrupts being irresponsible is therefore not unfair.

They seem to be saying "it's not a wag lifestyle, it's a change of circumstances ...." What they mostly fail to see is there WAS a WAG lifestyle before the change... once the change of circumstances kicked in, the WAGstyle still had to be paid for.

That spending a saturday afternoon critising bankrupt people on an internet forum is a little bit sad. Spending a saturday afternoon critising those who do the initial critising is probably even sadder of course.

Well I think that you have expressed a perfectly foolish point of view so I'm not sure where that leaves me...

Critising someone who critised someone else for critising someone?

Seriously though, there's a bit of a trend of mocking that board (not saying that's what the OPs original post did by the way) and it just seems a bit pointless. It is all a big huggy and fluffy, but most of them seem to be at least concerned about their situation and doing something about it.

I think that we should be very careful of our opinions of way folk go bust. I see many small businesses going under, owner, drivers and very sad it is too. People going bust due to job loss.

I am older and wiser now, so having earned very well for a few years I kept my lifestyle fairly "low" in terms of spending and commitment so now it is slower I feel very little difference.

What does get my goat is all the whooo hooo, well done on going br. I have had a number of folk that have gone br on me for 10s of thousands, it is not funny and maybe some of those on the br board should bear that in mind.

I would have posted the same thread If I knew how,so im glad Neas did.

I posted my view regarding the thread when it was posted on the BR board. It was interesting to see the views of people for the board, but in my opinion most of the view were less than impartial, given that it is fair to say that most that gave an opinion were probably having financial problems.I suggested it would be interesting if the thread was posted on this board to see (hopefully) a more balanced views and as such thanks Neas for posting it...

It is not a case of mocking or ridiculing others and as such would ask people to read the original thread on the BR board

This is the typical ignorant understanding most people have of bankruptcy and why the one size fits all system we currently have is simply outdated.

I'm a discharged bankrupt due to a business failure, in my case I had a customer go bankrupt owing me £250,000, who in turn went bust due to his customer going bust....kind of a domino effect, my customer was confirmed by my bank to be a low credit risk.

My credit file simply states "bankrupt", so I'm classed the same as anyone who did overspend on holidays and Plasma TV's.

It is not a soft option, it can be depressing and humiliating and can genuinely be through no fault of your own.

What do you base your 95% figure on? The day I arrived in court for my hearing, all the other people I spoke with were without fail businesses being wound up.

It's about time we had categorised bankruptcy.
