As promised my HSBC mortgage went live yesterday. Approved back in February the offer was valid for 6 months. So pleased I did not leave it any longer. Got a great deal 10 year fixed at 4.98% £600.00 set up fee.

Another contradiction with what I've been told in the branch! On the phone, they also told me I can reserve the mortgage for up to 6 months. In the branch, the advisor insisted that with HSBC it's never for more than 3 months!! I'm starting to be a little bit annoyed with them now....

Good for you talkalot - I am kicking myself as I saw 3.99% in March and did not know anything about reserving. Did you pay for legal and valuation?

No the £600.00 fee included all the legal feels and valuation. It just goes to show that if you see a good deal at the moment grab it if you can. I still think that HSBC overvalued our house but it worked very well in our favor.

    ...Update

As a non-HSBC customer I had to take all the (original) required documentation into the local branch to get it copied and certified by one of the advisors - fair enough I thought.

Today however I had a letter stating that I have to "take all the required documentation down to a local HSBC branch so that a staff memeber can copy and certify it".

I have just had to spend about 20 mins on the phone to them (on an 0845 number) trying to explain that I had already done this and if their staff didn't know what to do with a mortgage application it was hardly my fault.

If any non-HSBC customers are about to take out a mortgage with them make sure that you see that the staff certify the documents in front of you to avoid a similar situation.
    I think....
