We do need a car, my husband has been getting the train recently which involves a 40 minute walk to the station then 10 1/2 hour day and the same on the way back. Not fun when you have to leave at 4am! The car has been out of action and we haven't had the money to fix it. Not sure if we should just let the loan company take it at the moment and then get a little runner.

I would suggest you look to getting a runabout, you can get some bargains on Ebay with tax and Mot or in Autotrader on the under £500 section.

    * You will need to show the car is necessary and not just convenient.
    * They won't expect you to put your children into one room - if your rent is comparable with other similar size places in your area that should be fine.

Just a few thoughts for you....You need to take out all debts so we can see what your real surplus is.

If we don't pay the IVA (which we won't be this month) or the car (which we haven't for about 10 months) we are left with £28 surplus based on my figures which I think are fairly conservative. Saving for the BC fees is going to be really tricky. Plus we have got behind with other bills because we have made sure we were paying the IVA, now I wish we hadn't bothered.

Anything that you are behind with, the debt will go into the BR. So don't panic about that.
