Making nail polish stay?

Options
I used to me a nail polish junkie as a teen, then life hit and altough I keep my toenails painted my fingers get left un painted except for special occasions/nights out when I remove the next morning.

I'm going away next week, no animals, no washing up but quite smart occasions. Is it realistic to pain my nails sunday night and top coat them and expect them to last til thursday? I will be washing my hair daily, but thats the main damage they'll be exposed to. I have a fairly basic top cot here, I don't fancy spending for a better one, as the next time I'll get an occasion where I can rely on not doing nail chiping work for more than a day is...well long time from next week!

The trick is to apply a base coat first and also seal the nail edge with the base coat aswell. Apply three thin coats of nail varnish, also sealing the edge with the varnish. And finally applying a top coat. 1 hour to dry to the touch and will take up to 12 hours to completely set.

Then apply a very thin layer of top coat daily.

Should last till Thursday. Take a bottle of the same varnish with you to touch up any chips that may occur.

Thank you. The thing is, with taking two nail varnishes, its much harder now as tht bied into your fluid allowance: we're only taking hand luggage, and I'm already using DH's allowance too.

    toothaste
conditioner (scrimping by not taking shampoo)
    frizzease
    curling styling product
    toner
moisturiser (scrimping with one, not a day and separate night cream)
    body moisturiser
    serum
    sunlotion
    lipgloss
    foundation
    mascara
benetint (I could itch that I suppose)
    eyeliner
deoderant (we'll shareand he'll smell girly)
    (4 presciptions:o)

yes I could take them, just! Whoever said ten things only is OBVIOUSLY not female!

    Thanks for the tips :)

If you had acrylics done then painted them the nail varnish would stay on as long as you wanted it. I have acrylics and when I paint my nails it doesn't come off at all unless you use remover.

I would be careful trying to take nail varnish in hand luggage on a flight as last time I was told I couldn't as it's flammable!

Usually its not an issue. I don't have a nail varnish lifestyle most of the time, my guess is even acrylics or any other similar thing would be money wasted for my lifestyle. For less than a week and more than a day off I thought I might try having girly hands as well as feet, but maybe I'm beter leaving it.

I could buy a cheap top coat airside/on arrival and leave it there, but then I'm in trouble if the colour chips and I can't patch it up I suppose.

Gads, I'll just leave it I guess. :(

    Thank you :)

Was going to suggest one of the mini sized varnishes. If it gets confiscated you won't be too distraught! But, I did not think about them being flammable!

you want to double check these items ( i am assuming you are going on a plane)
some got taken off me from Portugal coming home to the uk

Suncream was taken from me, customs also took a bottle of marmite off someone else, think if there is anything you could just pick up at your destination? or think do you really need all these products.
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?

Gosh, DH often takes marmit through, I always take suncream through (small bottle.) The only thing I haven't taken through on the list is the nail polish, and it makes sense that wouldn't be allowed.

The only thing I've had taken from me was an attempt to take a can of magicool through (which Ihad forgotton about but did not quibble as it was both too large and an aresol). I take under 100 mls of everything in clear bottles and in the clear bag (bags, dh will take half!) and its never been a problem.

I have noticed that some women don't seem to put things they have in hand lugage like lip gloss and mascara in the bag, but I'm not prepared to risk it or flout the rules by attempting too. :o I think it must be pretty unrewarding for the poor people checking this: they get flack from someone everytime I go through, I don't want to be part of making their job harder

I think, even for me, its a bit much to book hold luggage, that will slow us down, for two nail varnishes and a can of magicool.

Another tip is make sure your throughly clean your nails before you start with your base coat. Use a nail polish remover without added oils/products which are added stop the nail drying out - these will actually put oil onto the nail plate and weaken the polish. I find the best results is to use acetone but it is very drying so try and make sure its on the nail only. Once your nails have dried and gone slightly chalky, paint on the base coat and then thin coats of polish on top.

see if you have a salon near you that does a treatment called Minx - its supposed to be much longer lasting than nail-varnish.
