• I am overweight and I find that walking causes me pain in my feet and I wear fly flots all the time - I have loads of them! They are completely rubbery sole and give you a lot of support.

I wear Ecco lace-ups. I've had several operations on my feet, including getting tendons cut, and used to have to get my shoes built-up. I've not bothered with that since I was a child but I always need comfy shoes. These cost about £50 a pair, but I live in my 2 pairs. I'm pretty hard on shoes and i've now had these 2 pairs for 18 months. They stay in shape and last me much longer than normal flatties. Usually, I start going over the side within a couple of months of getting a new pair.

Just saw that they're £65 a pair on this site. If you shopped around you might get some cheaper, but £50 was the cheapest I could get.

If you walk a lot (or want to start) find a helpful assistant in a shop that sells serious walking gear and buy a pair of boots. They'll support your ankles and if you get the right ones they'll be so comfortable. I did this years ago and still have my boots even though the ones suited to me were quite cheap compared to the other stock. Go on a Monday or Tuesday when the shops are quieter and you'll get better service.

If the pain is in the heel, there's a name for it. Which I can't remember right now, although that's probably just as well because I wouldn't want to be giving medical advice ...

Plantar fasciitis - I've had this in both heels (luckily not at the same time) and it was very painful, it went on for about 3 years in total. I also had Achilles tendonitis.

Yup, the name came to me later. The chiropodist and the physio both said to me that the pain WILL come back if I don't do my exercises. So I do, and it hasn't. BTW, I'm not saying that if someone has this and is still in pain it must be their fault. I managed to nip it in the bud, so to speak.

Would wearing shoes with a low heel occasionally help? I remember reading that if you wear flat shoes/trainers constantly, it can make your feet and legs ache.;)
10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j :cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. Give blood, save a life.
• Hotter shoes (available online) are good for people with foot problems. And Vans trainers have what feels like 3 inches of cushioning in the sole. They work for my rheumatoid arthritisy feet, anyway.
