It would be considerably easier to rent before BR (credit checks etc) If you did somewhere though make sure theres no bankruptcy clause in the tenency agreement etc......would definatley NOT tell creditors your going BR all that will do is increase the calls/letters etc...if they call just explain that your talking to a debt charity & will be back in touch soon
if the calls continue there is a letter floating around you could send..We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0 -
I've rented before my BR hearing. I've also gone through the contract with a fine tooth comb and found no mention of BR. Which is nice!"What does not kill you makes you stronger"0

Sorry if this is a silly question, but how can you pass credit checks by letting agencys if you have stopped paying creditors before going BR??
In similair situation and finding that lettings agencies want to charge you in region of £200+ for these checks!! Surely if we have missed creditors payments we wouldnt pass the check?
Any advice appreciated0 -
I have successfully rented a house after going br - had to put up some rent in advance and obtain a guarantor but it was fine and through a local estage agent. there are plenty of landlords needing tenants at the moment - you could try to rent before going be - i suppose it depends on whether you have a good credit score or not. However you could try private landlords, most of whom dont carry out credit checks.:j Goodbye debt - Hello sanity! :j0

I had to pay 6 months up front so the agent didn't do any checks."What does not kill you makes you stronger"0

Hi
Just wanted to let you know that we rented before the BR so that we were sure had a roof over our heads before our property was repossessed. It wworked out in the end for us, so good luck to you!No wins, No Savings

hiya I too rented before I went br and before they actually repossessed my house, I was upfront with the rental agency about having to go br and they spoke to the landlord who was fine with it ( I stressed it wasnt due to non payment of essential bills ).
I found renting first made the process of br better as I was not stressing about finding somewhere to live.
Ignore the letters and telephone calls if you are going to go br.
