Why are chocolate fountains so incredibly expensive to hire?

I was stunned to discover that for a private party, one would cost approx £400.
Apart from doing it myself, does anyone know any good companies that aren't that much!

buy one? they've come down in price quite a bit now, so you should be able to pick one up fairly cheaply. (well, a heck of a lot cheaper than £400!)
Or ask round, someone might have one that they'd be happy to lend to you.
Good luck and hope you'll find one0 -
If you have a B&M Bargins near you they have been selling them for £4.99 or there abouts for a while now, I got my kids one for easter. Worth a look at that price you could pick a couple up if it was a big party and have different chocolate in each one.

Do you have to use the proper fountain chocolate or can you cheat and just bung a dairy milk bar in? The fountain chocolate is so expensive plus you need a couple of packets a time:eek::jPrince's number one fan!!!:j

I use cooking chocolate in mine, (superchef ??) you need to check the cocoa content, and it needs to be 70% or above0

You need to check the consistency more than anything. The fountain chocolate contains more oil so it runs better in the machine. I used normal chocolate and thinned it out wiht the recommended quantity of oil (said on the instructions).
PS - did you know superchef cooking chocolate isn't as cheap as Tescos own chocolate? I thought cooking chocolate was the cheapest till I compared it a couple of isles over!

That's horrendous... I take it it's a package that comes with staff and all the sundries?
Amazon have them to purchase for around £15 up to £40 odd. Even the double ones that have two fountains, so you can use two different types of chocolate at once are about £35.
You can use normal chocolate thinned with oil or oil and baileys, but best to stick to a dark chocolate or one that hasn't got that much vegetable fat. Dairy milk doesn't melt very well and tends to get lumpy, but I have used galaxy with success.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -
we have a small fountain from argos £14.99 and it works great. i always use tesco or morrisons value chocolate 100g bar around 27p and usually use about 8 bars, add some vegtable oil and it works perfectly.when your life is a mess light one more cigarette its so logical!!
