A quick description of my experience in court:
Firstly, I'd like to reassure everyone facing this experience that it is almost painless and over very quickly. Yes, it is daunting and yes, there is an element of "the unknown" about it, but no-one is there to judge you.
The clerk was very amiable and sympathetic, in fact, he seemed genuinely interested in the circumstances leading up to my petition. He advised that the only petitioners the judges frowned upon were those that didn't bother to explain how they had reached debt crisis - and that even those petitioners were processed. The clerk took signed copies of the Debtor's Petition forms to the judge and left me in the interview room. He returned within ten minutes with the judges approval. The clerk then shook me by the hand, said "All the best" and left to phone the OR. After a few minutes the interview room telephone rang, I answered and was put through to the OR. The OR was business-like but not overtly unfriendly. I was asked about assets, bank accounts and how I had secured the funds to pay for the Bankruptcy fees. I was then told that the OR would write to me with a date for an interview (face-to-face or telephone). The clerk returned to the room for the second time, gave me a copy of the Bankruptcy Order and left again. When I finished the phonecall with the OR, I left the room and strolled out of the Court....

Thanks Iquit. I was so relieved to find that the process is relatively straightforward. To be honest, the most difficult step so far has been making sense of the forms!0
