Employment after BR

Hi there
I was discharged in January 2009. What are the regulations surrounding employment in finance type companies. A personnel agent has offered to send my CV to a consumer finance company. I'd be working in the IT department.
Would I have to disclose my BR to them? If there are restrictions when do they run out (if at all)?
If there are any restrictions or close scrutiny at this type of thing the I would rather my CV wasn't forwarded to this particular company (and similar companies) to avoid any awkward situations at the start of employment or further down the line.
Thanks
Gavin

It depends on the type of job you are applying to whether or not your bankruptcy is a problem. You only have to supply that information if you are asked - you don't need to volunteer it.

I would be working as a software developer, doing mainly web development.
A friend of mine mentioned that some financial institutions do credit checks on all staff. Does anyone know if this true or not?0 -
To be honest it depends on who apply to.
I applied and successfully got a job with the dept. of work and pensions in a purely administrative post. It asked on the character form if you were an undisharged bankrupt (which i am). The woman at the DWP interviews told me that as it was an admin post away from the financial sector I would be fine - suprise, surprise despite "flying through" (the words of the woman at DWP) the interview and test I did not get the job because of the bankruptcy - to say I was pi**ed of is an understatement.:mad::mad:
I actually put in a formal complaint as I find it offensive that this question is lumped alongside the criminal conviction and also that driving points/ban were okay. As I pointed out to them I could have been drunk driving and almost killed someone but would have been okay to employ but because I am taking ownership of my finances I am beind penalised - still waiting to hear back from them.
I know if you are going for a job in one of the call centres for ANY bank you are asked to do a credit check, and the same applies if you are working in a bank or building society.
To be honest if you are asked be honest but if it doesn't come up then I would stay schtoom.

Hi Gavin
I went BR in March 09, and started work for a finance firm in April 09. Many finance firms (possibly all) do a "screening" (that is usually outsourced). My understanding (so this may not be completely right, but may help) is that the screening firm checks that what you have said is correct. If you say you are BR, and they find you are, then as long as your role isn't restrcied by FSA regulations (and to be honest, most IT roles wouldn't be) then no problems. If you say you have no restrictions on you, and they find that your are BR, then it may be a problem. Just be honest. If they reject you on the grounds of being BR and your role has no FSA control, then there is surely grounds for discrimination? Thats why being truthful may be the better option.
As long as you are honest, then no problem. I work in IT, and spoke to my boss about my BR. The project that they are currently working on requires specialist skills that aren't too common in the market place - not sure if this helped influence their decision, but it hasn't been an issue for me. I put all my details on the screening form, and then 2 weeks later got an email saying all fine and no further action required....
Good luck

Thanks to everyone who replied. Your answers were all very helpful.
On further deliberation I decided to tell the recruitment consultant not to forward my CV to the finance company. I didn't want to risk getting a "bad" name at the agency should it be know that I'm a discharged BR and also I didn't want to risk possibly getting the job and further down the line losing my job due to having had a BR in the past, should this fact not be asked or made known at an interview stage. I'll stick with my current job for the minute, but keep looking or something else at non-finance companies.
Thanks
