Just in case anyone was wanting to hire a skip, beware of skip hire/waste management companies that say they are nationwide/cover an extremely large area of the country - they will almost certainly be brokers (as I beleive topskips to be)- i.e. you pay them, and they sub the job to a local company. There are quite a few brokers around, some have sneaky (IMO) tactics such as advertising in local phone directories with "local" numbers, to fool the unsuspecting customer into thinking that they are on their doorstep.
Nothing wrong with using a broker if you don't mind paying over the odds. As long as they use decent companies to do the work, then you should get decent service - mind you if you pay brokers' prices you'd want 5* service at the very least!!
Brokers have their place, particularly for businesses who work over a large area and want to have just 1 account for all their needs across the country. But for domestic users, I would say, do your research (i.e make a few calls and get some quotes), and as with many things word of mouth is the best recommendation.
Not to do topskips down, but their online quote for my postcode, for an 8 cu yd skip was £176 inc VAT, retail price around here (inc the April 1st increase due to rise in Landfill Tax) is (roughly) £115 inc VAT.
Sorry if I have said anything I shouldn't have, and sorry for going on, but I work in skip hire, and I feel fustrated when I know retail customers pay over the odds. Mind you, I shouldn't moan - local companies get the work whether it comes from a retail customer or the broker!0 -
I agree with you bennie. I just looked for a price for the same size skip that I hired recently.
I paid £160 inc VAT for the skip. For the same size skip, this site quoted £223 inc VAT.
This site is certainly not cheap for skip hire!!!How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Or speak vvv nicely to the girl on the other end of the phone and she might give it to you for the trade price(helps if your male and have a nice voice)
not that id ever do that0 -
If you get in touch with your local council they have an assessor come round and take away whatever you want to get rid of for a fraction of the price and they fill it for you too. I have done this on several occasions and it is so much cheaper.

As free as a 'free evaluation' from an estate agent or 'free quote' from a double glazing company. The only 'free' thing here is advertising for topskips. Spam? I think so.Blitzkreig Bob says Hi to those checking his validity!0
