Help... I'm not a fraud!

Hi all

Wondering if anyone knows how long CIFAS entries stay on your credit report?

I have two entries - from a genuine application from me, I might add, there's never been any fraud involved - from Halifax bank.

I spoke to Experian who couldn't tell me and referred me back to the bank.

Halifax bank don't keep records of applications after 90 days so can't find anything at all about me or the application (it's from Oct 08 and I went elsewhere for the product in the end so am not a customer).

The CIFAS website would help if I really had been a victim of fraud but isn't much help otherwise.

Any ideas? (Sorry if this is on the wrong board, I'm posting here as I'm looking at a new credit card and checked out my report first, which is where all this has come from!)

Thanks for any advice you can give

They stay on your file for 13 months IIRC

Do you happen to know if I can have the entries removed because I really haven't been a victim of fraud?

I don't want any bank or lender to think that I have or that there has even been suspicions of fraud... it seems bizarre as well that these CIFAS entries were recorded without anyone letting me know.

Surely if the bank thought someone was impersonating me or something, they should have let me know about it? (or is that just too sensible?!)

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

You can write to the credit company with the CIFAS case number (listed on your credit report) and explain your reasons why there should be no marker on your file.

I think you need to understand the CIFAS flags and this will help ascertain what went wrong.

I'd guess that it was a category 4 - but have a look for yourself and see what you think.
