Interest Free Overdraft Extension
I have just finished my 2nd year of university, and have a £500 interest free overdraft with the bank of Scotland and am currently overdrawn by £490. I also have a credit card with a limit of £750 which still £750 left.
I need around £800 for the end of this month to pay 3 months rent in advance, but will only be receiving about £400 from my job, which I only started on Monday.
Ideally I would like to extend my overdraft to the £3000 maximum, but from what i’ve heard no one actually ever gets that amount. So im realistically hoping to get it extended to £1500. But obviously with the current economic climate the banks are probably not wanting to give away interest free money.
Should I reduce the limit on my credit card to £200 (or even cancel it) before I go into the bank, so I have less available credit and they will be more likely to give me a larger overdraft. Or would that be fairly obvious to them?
I have been with bank of Scotland for atleast 7 years if that makes any difference

Doesn't seem an unreasonable request - and compared to the overdrafts most students have 2 years in, £500 looks pretty low. Even if you don't get it interest free, presumably you won't be borrowing for too long until your wages cover teh rent deposit.
Don't see any need to lower your credit limit on the card either - really don't think it would make much difference.
Good luck
R.Smile, it makes people wonder what you have been up to.
