I'm quite new to all this but I do have some experience with AOL (I'm sure others, with more experience, will advise you on the 'bigger' stuff).
You CAN get cheaper broadband elsewhere, but if you want to stay with AOL, or are still in your contracted first year, phone them and tell them you've heard that the Silver package is available for less than the £17.99/month you currently pay. They will, in my experience, reduce it to £15.99/month without any argument- not a huge saving but better in your pocket than theirs!!
I pay £9.99 (for 2 years)for the Silver package but when I phoned to try and get my parents subscription reduced, AOL told me this rate was only available to a small number of long term customers and £15.99 was best they could do - but any saving is better than nothing.
Good luck
Ali
