Thanks for all the replies. I still need to work something out but the last couple of days I've been applying for jobs and had an interview as well. I've still got time and I'm not going to let them win.

    Thanks again.

    Hi

Please also get you local councillor involved. make sure you explain that the account is on hold but that you stress the illegal nature of the bailiff's action. That may improve you chances of getting the account taken back in house by the Council.

You need to repeat everything you have sid on here in writing to the head of Revenue Collection and ask them to take the account back.

best of luck with the job interviews.

Good luck with the job. As RAS says, please stay on top of things with dealing with the bailiffs. It would be a shame if the time you've got while their action is suspended slipped away - you've got a great chance to act now without too much pressure so you can think about each step before you take it.

First of all, now that the council have called off the bailiffs try to deal with them you should be able to cut out the bailiff. It does seem that the bailiff has acted inappropriately and it may be a case to make a complaint to the County court whop issued his Bailiff Certificate (I think it is a Form 4 for complaints). This will then require the bailiff to answer the complaint and if it is not satisfactory a hearing may be arranged to see if the individual should have his certificate revoked. There are strict time limits for a response following any complaint.

To be a certificated bailiff you have to be deemed to be a fit and proper person.
