Applying for jobs - credit checks when bankrupt

I have been in IT for many years (developer / analyst / manager etc.) and have worked both as a contractor and in permanent employment.

I was recently made bankrupt and wanted to find out what companies/jobs typically did credit checks when applying - and refused those who are bankrupt.

I obviously cannot be a director or a partner now so one thought was that I would sign up with an umbrella company and take a contract (if one was available that is!) where any income would be paid via the umbrella company. Hopefully.... this might circumvent any issues with credit checks etc.

Has anyone any thoughts on the above and what business areas might be easier to get work in baring in mind the current economic climate?

Many thanks for your time.

    Hi JN

Snap, I was in a contract when made BR in sept 07, I took a week off work and had to tell my agency/client, they kept me on - and it was a Bank lol, however I think it was only as it was more hassle to get a replacement. After that contract finished I then found another contract at another bank - it was one I had worked at previously, I was honest upfront with my previous manager/agency and they took me on.

However I have not applied for a brand new contract with an unknown Bank, most vacancies have a line that says you may be subject to a credit check, would be interested to hear if anyone has been successful.

PAYE through a service company is the best route , 360-group/hyperlink were really great.

Good Luck with it all :-)
