Error message on Freecom ext' HD

Hi, I need help with an error message from my Freecom Ext hard drive. Every time I try to back up, I get an error message that reads, 'an error has occurred during backup'.
Any advice on how to solve this, please?

    Rich, thanks for your reply. I'm using Freecoms own software, supplied with the HD. Where will I find the version number, please?

    I 'phoned Freecom (very helpful!) and they advised that I uninstall software, reboot and reinstall software. Done and now trying to backup.
