Bankruptcy - wrong address given

doing some web research[1] I've found that someone's claiming to live at a house on my street that they can't possibly live at - (as well as one in a different area) for their bankruptcy petition.

Surely they check these things out?

Can they 'not possibly live there' because it's empty (or occupied by someone else) or because it doesn't exist?

The bankruptcy paperwork needs previous, as well as current, addresses if you have not been in property for any length of time. The fact that you say they are also showing another address in a different area suggests this is the case.

My insolvency register entry, while it was active, listed my current address and my old address, which I couldn't possibly live at as it had been repossessed and was standing empty.

If you are positive that the person cannot live there (the property does not exisit/derelict eg), then contact their OR and tell them.

Its easily done - you obviously have enough info about the person/property so go to the insolvency search, put them in and their BR number and OR details will come up.

The OR is likely to come back and tell you that things are AOK - the property has been repossessed etc. All addresses go onto a BR petition as creditors have the ability to check against the insolvency for their clients so they can tally up. If they do not have the correct addresses then it would cause issues in the future.

    lately residing at ...

How lately. It'd have to be over 5 years as someone else lives in it now.
And I'm 99.99% certain they didn't live there before then either.

well in that case you need to contact the OR's office dealing with the case & inform them...

    What do they do?
I'd have thought they verified addresses when you apply for it though.

Yep, I agree with Skylight and Philnicandamy.

Lately residing at means that they have listed it as a previous address.

If you are sure that they didn't live there then contact their OR (the OR office details will be on their insolvency register report) and let them know, they'll look into it.

It could turn out to be something as simple as a clerical error or something similar, you never know :)

No they don't check it, and why would they?
As long as you give a current address where the OR can contact you the OR is happy.

Are you concerned that it will have some effect on the current residents? If so, this is not the case, unless they have the same name or a financial link to the person living there there will be no adverse effect at all.

Do you know the people who live there personally, is it possible that they gave this person permission to use the address?
