I haven't heard of this shop but I would probably recommend that she go to a dentist to get this done. A friend of mine works as a dental nurse and has talked of loads of people coming in with blisters around their mouths after trying to get their teeth whitened in beauty salons.0

If it's not being done by a dentist, or hygienist - then it's 'illegal practice of dentistry' and should be reported to the General Dental Council who will (eventually!) get round to sending out a letter to 'discourage' them from continuing, or prosecute.

1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

My friend had hers whitened recently and they look great, she says it was carried out by a fully qualified therapist with no discomfort - it only cost her £99, if you go to a dentist they will charge anything from £250 upwards. Oh by the way teeth whitening is a cosmetic treatment, not an act of dentistry and therefore does not have to be done by a dentist[/FONT]
Would you mind telling us what it takes to be a 'fully qualified therapist' I'm assuming from your post that you're financially connected with it?
Most of the courses I've heard of take up a single Saturday afternoon - with more time being spent on how to sell it rather than what to look out for in terms of risk factors and contra-indications.
But then - if your therapists DO look for any problems that might cause harm to a patient, then they'll be carrying out an examination, which is very much 'The practice of dentistry' - and illegal for a non dentist.
So - I'm assuming your 'qualified' therapists just sell it to everybody with no regard to who it might harm or help?
Are they insured? That must cost a packet? How to find a dentist.

My wife is a qualified Dental Hygenist and Therapist, it took her 4 years in university to get her qualifications and in addition she has to attent CPD courses yearly to keep her licence if that answers a previous question. I doubt if any of the qualified therapists in Rubber Ducky's post have a similar qualification.
she would reccomend only getting whitening done by a proper dental professional... anything to do with the teeth and gums is medical and not cosmetic as previously described.
I work in a legal firm and we have recently had a case wherby a woman is suing an beauty therapist who attempted to perform teeth whitening and ended up burning her entire mouth and gums.
Altough not illegal, in this case you probably will pay for what you get and what proper knowledge will a beauty therapist have of the medical workings of the mouth? none doubtless...0 -
if you're stupid enough to go to someone other than a fully qualified dentist/hygienist for your teeth whitening then you don't deserve to have teeth!0

Anyone had teeth whitening by smile-lounge. Just got a gift certificate for my birthday:D. Looked up the website and it says only uses trainned dentists, so hoping all will be well:eek:0
