I've just caught my lycra cycling shorts on a nail, and they have a small, but very noticable hole
Any tips on how best to mend this, please

Hi Pen Pen
I am sure the dressmaking hoards will be along in a minute.
Can you patch it from inside and bind the edge of the hole so that it doesnt run. It could be patched with something other than lycra if it was easier.
It should be repairable that way - as long as you dont mind the idea of patching clothes then wearing them - I dont i grew up doing it

I used to sew lycra a lot, making dance costumes, its a tricky material  It doesn't run or fray like any other! If the hole is not in a bit that is stretched a lot it wont run, if it is it may grow
Probably best to try a patch if you have some other lycra the same colour, otherwise a all I can think of is sewing a motif in lycra over the hole. Ballpoint needle and stretch stitch on a low tension should do it.whoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine

Apart from the ideas above the only additional thought I can come up with is darning it. Using stitches to cover over the hole rather than trying to pull the fabric together.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

No idea how to mend it but I would suggest having your nails cut.
Have you thought about covering it by sewing on one of these?0
