just saw this on hotdeals work a post here :)

I have just had an engineer call round at a fixed price for the visit and for servicing and repairing my 6yr old Dyson DC07. For the fixed price of £63.62 he replaced the following parts:

1 X Motor 240v (YDK) YV-2200
1 X DC07 BRUSHBAR ASSY
1 X POST FILTER PAD
1 X DC07 PRE-FILTER ASSY
1 X CLUTCH ASSY

I knew the motor had gone on the vacuum, and after searching the net realised that a new motor would cost at least £45 + postage and I would probably !!!! up installing it. So, when I contacted Dyson about this service I was very impressed. The engineer was great and took his time to make sure it was all working perfectly. It is now working like new, and much cheaper than a new one.

The benefits are that you don't have to fill up landfill, save money on replacing the vacuum and you get another 12month warranty.

All you have to do is phone the number below to arrange a visit:

Dyson Ltd UK Helpline (7am - 10pm) 7 days a week:

IMHO its the plastic bits that break off or snap off or fall apart, and they really know how to charge for replacements.

This post from the original thread sums it up for me:

"there's about £40 worth of spares here and £20+ for the labour

They offer this because they have loads of spares spare and to keep their engineers busy.

The YDK motors Dyson (cost Dyson about a tenner each) always use are terrible, like putting a Peugeot engine onto a Audi.

The original Panasonic motors they used were the best, because you cant beat a Panasonic motor.

Good deal if you want to keep average vacuums on the road.

You would never need this with a Miele or a Sebo vacuum total quality, Dyson 25% on the cost on the machine 75% on the marketing budget."

I put up with a DC04 for four years and even in between its many breakdowns it was a barely adequate vacuum cleaner. I'm all in favour of recycling but IMO the sensible thing to do here is scrap the Dyson and put the £64 towards a decent vac.
