Well I have got some eyebrow raising news... Capital One have given me a blumming credit card!! I applied for something to do, thinking I'd be turned down flat, but I wasnt.... strange
Out of further interest, were Capital One one of your original creditors?0 -

Thanks sparkle84. I agree with you in the main but the OP has an OD already. All I was trying to say, albeit very badly, is that they have already been given an OD, which I hear is not usually available to bankrupt customers. It doesn't make sense to me that they would not give them a debit card to use on the account. I have a Maestro/Switch and I don't have an OD with that account - therefore no credit.
Anyway, thanks for explaining. Cash is very much acceptable everywhere but we all like the convenience of cards and if used in a controlled manner, they are handy.Leason learnt :beer:0 -
kevker wrote:It is, unfortunately it's hard to pay cash on the internet. Of course, it helps having to pay more for everything in a shop, why would you want to save money by buying cheaper on the internet? Surely as well, as OP said, he has run the account well since being made bankrupt, has never gone over his overdraft, so I can't see what the problem would be, but then I suppose we aren't all perfect like some people.
aaah don't do the bleedin heart thing nobody is perfect but that must be the most over used misplaced statment on this board. Doesn't it ring ANY alarm bells with you that the OP had already run up an overdraft I mean he declared himself bankrupt and you think the fact that he "has never gone over his overdraft" should be rewarded with a debit card - and you don't see that as a problem!!!
oh and your laughable suggestion that its hard to pay cash on the internet - don't shop on the internet that usually solves that particular problem0 -

Try actually reading my post before showing your ignorance. Also, at what point did the OP say he ran up an overdraft. Once again try reading posts. He said he occasionally dipped into an AGREED overdraft. Therefore I can see no problem with this. Also, show me in the original post where they said they declared themselves Bankrupt? Unfortunately you have jusy assumed this. At the end of the day, people come on this board to get help and get answers to questions. So far you have managed to provide neither, but have inflicted your own opinions on the rest of us.0 -

I read your post I don't understand how I "am showing my ignorance" the OP stated he dips into an overdraft ever now and then as he was declared bankrupt (by his own admission in his opening sentence I didn't assume) it would be more prudent that he DIDN'T DO THIS. Funny how the OP seems to have disappeared off the forum isn't it. I have not inflicted my own opinions he asked why he wasn't given a debit card and I explained why. Don't you ever call me ignorant again0 -
you can have a debit card without an o/d. whats the risk to the bank with that? i have a visa electron debit card and i am a current bankrupt.
it is not as widely accepted as my old visa delta but most shops accept it, as to a fair few online. my debit card wont allow me to go overdrawn, so i am no risk to the lender.
to the original poster, i say go to the co - op. they also have good internet banking0 -

Sparkle - I am not suprised the OP 'seems' to have disappeared off the forum. If i was a new poster, and had genuinely asked for help, and had been greeted by someone as obnoxious and narrow minded as you, i would have 'disappeared'.
Heapy - please ignore these recent postings. The majority of people on the DFW site are helpful, NON-judgemental, and sound people. Unfortunatley you sometimes get posters like Sparkle, who like to start arguments. Please check out the web site provided by one of the more helpful posters, and check out the Co-op too. They seem to have helped quite a few people. Also, check out some of the similar threads. You can use the search facility to help you.
Welcome to the board - and apologies for not receiving the usual friendly greetings.
LWhat's he building in there???

Well said, Lydia! The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

Think you will find Sparkle84 is as always 100% on there own with there opinion!!
Oh and having myself put up with Sparkle84 in some posts i will say it to SPARKLE you are IGNORANT!!!!!
You are allowed your say here to just dont think you are always right!!
By the way dont work in debt collection do you???would be the perfect job for you!0 -
Maybe sparkle read the post the same way I did when it came to the part about the kids. That really upset me as I'm struggling to get out of debt and can't buy my kids things. Where we have to budget plan our meals, its hard to see someone who's gone bankrupt living a better life with more money, it just doesn't seem fair.
Maybe deep down some people do feel they should be punished, those of us paying debts are punished every day. Sorry if this offends anyone but thats how I feel.Barclaycard 3800
