recycling furniture, electricals, etc....

Options
I have quite a few items that I want to find good homes for. Items included - storage radiators, lamps, some furniture, a raleigh bike, electrical things and cables, a spiral staircase.

I could ebay them but I'm quite happy to donate them to good homes as they 'owe' me nothing.

I'm not sure about freecycle in my area (not good reputation).

Any ideas welcome
thanks

    Where do you live?

I know York has a great Community Furniture Project where they will come and collect all of your old (in good condition) furniture and then sell it on at a much cheaper price (about £100-£150 for a nice 3-piece suite). maybe there is one of these in your area....

If not, do you have a British Heart Foundation charity shop near you?

They will come and collect all of your old furniture and electricals and sell it in their shops. And you have the bonus of knowing that the money from your old stuff has gone to a good cause!

Does your work have a small ads service at all?

    What about your local newspaper?

I have sold loads of unwanted Xmas presents using my local newspaper and work small ads pages!

If not, Freecycle can be great! There are people on there who take the p*ss and ask you to deliver or don't show up but 99% of my experiences with using Freecycle have been positive.

I'm looking to give away as opposed to sell.

Most things have already gone to local shops but they don't except electrical goods.

I'm sure if you advertised the stuff in your local paper or work small ads as 'Free to anyone who can collect' you would get quite a few responses.

I would recommend that you try Freecycle. Just make sure that everything is done on your terms, i.e. state in your post the time that is best for you for people to come round and collect stuff.

As I said, most of my experiences on Freecycle have been good, I have only had a couple of no shows and a few people asking me to deliver the stuff. You can just put the no shows down to experience and tell the ones who want delivery exactly where to go!!

no shows are a problem as the stuff is 5 miles away from home, and I can't be with 10 mile trips for timewasters :(

I have taken note and will look into it.

    Yeah, that is a pain!

You could always advertise all of your stuff at once and arrange for all of the people to come at the same time.

This way, at least if a couple of people don't show up then you will still have gotten rid of some of your items and not completely wasted your time.
