Ways not to spend our hard earned cash?

Options
Hi all, I was having a conversation with my dad earlier and it made me think. He was saying that someone he knows has dental treatment free as they offer their services to the students working at the dental school. Apparently it is quite difficult to get on these lists and they have been doing this for many years.

Sometimes it is hard for people to earn an extra income as they have full time jobs or other family commitments. So as well as saving on insurance, utilities etc. which we know about and try to do as much as possible. Does anyone know of any other ways not spend our hard earned cash such as this dental school?

free eyetests are always good. Also once u have the prescription they are obliged to give u u can then either find a wholesaler where u live or buy on-line

My mum used to buy clothes for night out, tuck in the labels etc, and return them the next week. Does that count?

You can get beauty salons at colleges doing things for cheaper money also, haircuts, waxing, manicures etc. etc.

There are various schemes run around the country including one called LETS in which people barter skills and time rather than paying for a service..I haven't had experience of the scheme personally but have heard good things about it.Might be good for some of our DFW's who are at home but need extra savings?? Maybe offer babysitting/typing/bookeeping services etc in exchange for something you need..Will try to dig out a link :D

Maybe I was unlucky but I had some dental work courtesy of a Sheffield Uni student. I was misdiagnosed and hit with a $900 when I was living in Florida later. Like I said - might have just been unlucky. (Abcess not treated properly in the UK = emergency root canal in the good ol US of A)

    Hey everyone

I would throughly recommend this site: http://www.freecycle.org/

It's basically an extension of recycling and the idea is that if you have something that you no longer need but you don't want it to go to the landfill you can offer it on your local mailing list. If you need something as well you can also post your request on the list.

I am a member of the manchester, uk, group and so far I have given away a chest of drawers & 2 blinds which have all gone to new homes! I have seen washing machines, beds and even a car offered!! I haven't requested any items yet as I am trying for the minimalist look - hee hee - much to my partner's horror!

I originally found out about freecycle on this site so I thought I would pass the word on!

    Cheers
