Yes is tax year 08\09, its the on-line SA that worked out 609, I wonder why it used 22% as the tax rate and not 20% ? Also how do they pay this, straight into the bank I nominate, or adjust tax code?0
-
Might be worth checking you're filling out the return for the right year as I would be surprised if this was wrong on HMRC's site.
For self assessment I would expect them to pay direct or send you a cheque.0 -
How many hours a week for the 4 months will you be working ?It sounds like you will be within the tax personal allowance. Are you registered as self-employed ?0

This is what I pointed out in my first post - if you are earning below the taxable threshold, then there will be no tax relief and all this is pointless. Currrent threshold is £6475pa, or £125 pw.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

Hi Fengirl
Does the tax have to be earnt in that Job ?
ie if you claimed miles allowance against a short term job that you didn't pay tax on, but then moved to a job for the rest of the year where you earnt more and paid tax but couldn't claim mileage allowance . would the claim be allowed ?He's not an accountant - he's a charlatan0 -
Aaah ok i understand, well since Im only there for 4 months im going to be well under the £6475 im sure :-( gutted seems like a waste of time then...0

It pays to read all posts carefully!
suso, no expenses can only be set against the income to which they relate.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0 -
You won' t be able to claim any tax back on your mileage but if you have actually paid tax and earn less than £6,475 you will be able to claim the tax you paid back when you leave the country prsuming you aren't coming back until next tax year.
I know it's not the original question but I thought it was worth pointing out in case it does apply to you.0
