Default Removal Advice

Hi all,

Have trawled this site numerous times and have found loads of great info but not quite specific to what I need so I'm hoping someone can shed some light for me.
A few yrs ago I was married to a guy who gambled and lied and he left me with considerable debt, the majority of which was utility bills which I have settled and hasn't affected my credit report (have checked). The other however, was a loan with Black Horse that we had together and as part of our marital agreement he was supposed to be making the repayments. It wasn't until I got a copy of my credit report that I found out that a default had been entered against me re this. As soon as I saw this, I contacted Black Horse and settled the account (Was aware that I was liable of course). As you can imagine that time was difficult for me with divorce etc and I thought it was just tough luck that I had the default and didn't think any more of it. After reading info in this site I realised that I have no recollection of the default notice (although in fairness it is possible it was sent as my ex used to keep alot of things from me) therefore I decided to try and follow the advice from users on here and also from learnmoney.co.uk to request a copy of my cca and default notice from Black Horse with a view to getting this removed from my credit file. I have sent an intitial letter similar to many on this site and am awaiting response. What I'm hoping for today is some specifics re the legalities and wondered if anyone could answer:
1) If they do not respond within the 12+2 (+30) days can I somehow force them to remove the default even if they provide it a few weeks down the line?
2) If yes to 1, how would I 'force' them?
3) If they do have my CCA, what do they also have to provide legally re the default in order for them to say that it is legitimately on my credit file.
4) Is there anyway of me knowing whether any info re the default is legit (i.e how will i know if they haven't just printed off a template and put in my details).
The default has been on since July 2005 and due to roll off in July 2011 but obviously it would be great if I cold get it off before then. I have no other debt and am lucky enough not to need credit at the mo but if I do in future then the default will be a hindrance.

I would be really grateful for any advice anyone can give. Apologies for lengthy post-am new to this and wanted to make sure I'd mentioned everything relevant.

Thanks again
