I have had problems unintalling - it tells me that there is no SETUP.EXE file before but was advised not to worry about it!

Now I want to install a CD-rom and it comes up with:

setup requires _SETUP.DLL and _ISRES.DLL (located in (SETUP.LIB) in order to operate properly. Please ensure these files are located with SETUP.EXE

What can I do (thats easy???)

Have you uninstalled something and are now trying to install it again?

Not this CD. In the past I tried to uninstall ad-aware, but it wouldn't do it properly and said that setup.exe was not installed properly. People on here said not to worry about it, but now I think it may be connected to this completly seperate cd-rom problem I want to install

You probably need to clear out your temporary files folder - had a similar problem once when I tried installing some software. Turns out the install package on the software wasn't uncompressing to the temp folder correctly as a previous install of different software had left the file setup.exe in there. Result was that during the install it ended up running the wrong setup.exe and couldn't find the correct files.

Right click on the drive in the windows explorer, choose properties and then choose disc cleanup. You'll need to click the 'temporary files' line from the window that eventually appears.
They promised the earth...and delivered mud. Technically though it did meet the spec.

A failed uninstall of adware will not impact on a installation of a cd.

Is the disk an original disk (not copied)
Do a search for _SETUP.DLL and _ISRES.DLL on the disk - is there an autorun on the disk?

Its an original disk - and It does autorun - then when I click install it comes up with the problem.
I have searched on the disk and it finds the SETUP.DLL but not ISRES.DLL one.

And how would I clear out my temporary files? I can find a couple of folders marked temp, but if I right click onto proerties, there is not disk clean up option. Can I just delete everything that is in these folders?

To get help on here, you should give as much information as you possibly can! i.e. operating system etc.

I am guessing that you are using Win 98 or a similar OS, so you could try using the System File Checker to check out your system files.

If not using XP then the simplest solution is to:

    1. open up a command window (Start, Run, and then type command or cmd)
    2. when the dos/command window opens then type in SET TEMP and press return
    3. The path of the temp folder will then be shown to you
    4. repeat step 2 with the command SET TMP
    5. The alternative temp folder path will then be shown to you.

You can almost certainly delete everything in these locations as they 'should' only really be used for temporary purposes.

Although maybe not completely related, I know a number of people who fail to do a windows update (for hardware and software) which can often patch and solve annoying and what seem unrelated issues.
In INternet Explorer, go to Tools and Click Windows Updates. Microsoft site will then scan your PC and guide you through essential updates. You'll be better patched against viruses, your hardware drivers'll be up-to-date, as well as having a healthier operating system.
    Good luck...
