Private Debt Counselling - WHY???

I for one had never heard of the CCCS or Payplan until I came on here - and I came on here after seeing Martin on the Richard whatshisname show, so I think its simply irgnorance and lack of knowledge. I dont know what others think but any time in the past I have ever tried to contact the CAB it is impossible to get, may have changed by now but because of past experience I wouldnt even have bothered with them.
My OH had just applied to Debt Free Direct with the idea of taking out an IVA and he was also looking into a consolidation loan. He has always had control of the money but realised we were going to get into even deeper trouble so thank god for Martin, this site and all the other debt-free wanabees who have given me the courage to hold my head up rather than head in the sand .0 -

I guess that the creditors would be more receptive to organisations that have less sympathy for debtors than the likes of the CAB who are there to help and not to profit?
Actually the opposite is true more companies like morgan stanley, MBNA, Capital One etc won't deal with anyone except payplan or cccs. They take you more seriously if you are with the above and obviously are aware that the 16/17/25% you are paying a debt management company or scum as we know them on mse could be paid to them instead. HSBC won't deal with anyone but cccs or payplan, spectrum, baines & Ernst letters go in the bin0 -
How do you know that sparkle ?0

Sparkle, if what you say is true I'm really impressed! It's a pity that all financial institutions won't take a similar stance, dealing only with non-profit debt services.
A throught for anyone who wants to get one back on the debt management firms - volunteer some time to help the CAB or other such services. You'll be a sympathetic ear and will help deprive parasitic debt companies from customers.0
