tom tom 300 ?? any good ?? cheapest going?

hi i am looking to buy a sat nav system which is easy to use for someone who is not computer minded and just needs to get from a-b easily.must have voice directions,and be simple !!!
any ideas other than the tom tom 300 which was reccommended by carphonewarehouse for £299.99

any ideas appreciated,

well that was ruined by lending ex oh £2450 to move out!!!!!! now estimate 21st march 2006hoping to be debt free by end of feb 2006 - fingers crossed !!

    Me too would have like one but am getting put off by all the tales people tell me about how theirs fail to get them to their destinations.

    Also, how does it deal with temporary road closures etc, does it take long to re-plan your route etc.

    Anyhow, Maplins are doing Garmin (which by all accounts is supposed to be one of the best) for £269 instead of the usual £300.

    I am still contemplating ......
