What carpet soap to use?

I'm about to borrow my Mum and Dads Vax rapid carpet cleaner as my carpet is crying out for a good clean, however I have never used it before and need to buy the soap to use in it....can anybody recommend a cheap good soap (vax's one is meant to be v.expensive!! :rolleyes:) I do have stardrops????

I have a vax, I love it! The thing to look for when buying the shampoo is that it says it's suitable for 3-in-1machines (or suitable for vaxes or whatever it says) Ordinary carpet shampoos produce a lot of foam which will really mess up your vax and your carpet and won't work. At the moment I've got 1001 3-in-1 carpet shampoo (it says for all 3 in 1 machines on the front) It cost 1.25 for a 500ml bottle in a cheapy shop or market stall somewhere, not sure where but the price label is still on it and it couldn't have been that long ago. Try Wilko, home and bargains etc. Also some supermarkets do their own brand.

But it's not just the price of the bottle, some need a couple of capfuls per full vax, some need half a bottle, so make sure you're comparing like for like.

I think it's brilliant, gets the carpet really clean and burns off a good few calories at the same time. Talk about 3 in 1!!!
