Have you tried downshifting to the supermarket's own brand?

I tend to buy the Asda's own brand chilli sauce and there's nowt wrong with it (but haven't tried the value range).

This is the one I use and my kids love it, after the initial outlay for the spices, it works out pretty cheap.

    1 large onion, finely chopped
    1 garlic cloves, crushed
2 fresh chillies, deseeded and chopped I use chilli flakes
    2 tsp ground cumin
    1 tsp ground coriander
    1 tsp paprika
    a pinch of cayenne pepper
1 can chopped tomatoes or pasata
    1 level tbsp tomato puree
½ pint beef stock I just use an oxo
    Dash worchester sauce
    salt and ground black pepper
    1lb minced beef
1 can red kidney beans, drained

You can make it as hot or mild as you like :)

probably going on some offer in the near future, probably half price or something, so charge higher price now, then reduce it by what you think is half price:rolleyes:

I have edited your post to show what I use, with ommitted stuff scored out and extra in red. I find I can use less mince if I add more veggies in.

    Well done.
Once you have the spices/herbs in then you will find uses for them in other meals too. I used to buy 1 or 2 until I had a good selection of herbs and spices in. You will find some are interchangeable too. Also if you can get cheap fresh herbs you can chop and freeze them for future use.

I also recommend 1 tsp cocoa powder (a tsp of caster sugar is OK too) - the sweetness brings out the flavour of the chilli, and tones down the acidity of the tomatoes.
