18 year old needs a loan

How come you make absolutely no mention of how you intend repaying the loan??
It seems you simply want the money, and thats it.
How are you going to repay with negligable income?0 -
a girl at my school was given one because she was apparently so fantastic. googled her now and nothing comes up though lolsYou did not become a decent violinist at age 17 or 18. Your potential must have been know about for a long time. Your mother and yourself have had years and years to save up for a decent instrument.Kavanne

Have a look at this site - seemed to come up with 15 or so charities that help with instrument purchase:

Or have you considered asking a shop if you could hire an instrument for three months to get you through auditions? As others have said once you are at university you could use your grant/loan money towards an instrument.
p.s. not wanting to be harsh but I know some pro musicians and they all have 2 or 3 jobs at once. Very hard to make a living on music alone.0 -
Are you currently doing AS or A2? I assume AS as this is a "plan" and you don't appear to have a place at University sorted yet.
If that's the case, you'll soon have 10 weeks in which to work - you should be able to save the money in that time.

To study performance at university you should be at least Grade 8 standard by this point. If you've managed to do that on your current violin I don't see why auditions should be a problem. Your teacher doesn't seem very supportive.
I agree with the above posters that a loan isn't an option. A job should be possible or if not perhaps an appeal in your local paper?0 -
Would your violin teacher lend/hire you a superior instrument for any audition? Could your school help at all? Some schools have educational trusts you can apply to for funds for thing like this......
.....and I agree with everyone else - you need to get a part-time job during term-time, with increased hours during the holidays.[0 -
Try a zopa listing..its a relatively small sum.0

Its a big bad world out there, if you have no way of repaying a loan why on earth do you think anyone will lend you the cash?
You mention it is difficult to get a job to fit around your spare time. Have you thought about giving up your spare time so that you can get a job and then purchase the violin off your own back?
Plenty other people seem to get jobs that eats into what they would like to be spare time for themselves.0
