Sewing material shops around Edinburgh?

I have just got back to sewing after 20 years and bought a new sewing machine. Although I can find plenty of nice fabric shops on-line you cant beat actually looking at and feeling the fabric.

I live in East Lothian and haven't a clue where any fabric shops are! I know there is a small one in Haddington and I know John Lewis in Edinburgh sell fabric (but pricey).

Can anyone recommend any fabric shops in or around the Edinburgh area?

Thanks

Linda

    Hi,
There is a place on Bonnington Road imaginatively called 'The Cloth Shop'.

I don't know how pricey they are though and it's a while since I've been, but they used to be good.

    HTH.

Mandors is good, and Edinburgh Fabrics on Patrick Square has good reports.

There used to be a Remnant Kings on the street that leads to the Usher Hall. Used to be a remnant place in Linlithgow. Try Yell.com to check what is current.

There is a big shop on Seafield close to the Matalan Store.

It is part of Kings Fabrics that used to be called Remnant Kings several years ago whidh used to have a shop on Salisbury Place and on Lothian Road. This is probably the better one for you if you are coming from East Lothian as it is the continuation of the Sir Harry Lauder Road and has parking, as does the one on Bonnington Road which is only another 15 minutes along the road for you.

    Hope this helps.

  • Or there is Dunelm Mill at Straiton Retail Park in Loanhead. They have loads of fabrics and sewing materials. However i think most of it is curtain fabric but they do have other stuff too. HTH.

I passed the Remanant Kings shop I posted about previously that is based at Seafield and it is actually a curtain shop. The Cloth Shop as mentioned by Angle and that is the other Remnant Kings shop which may be more suited to your needs.
  • I went to the Cloth shop on Bonnington Road today and was in 7th heaven! Got some lovely material at £3.99 per metre to make myself a top - yes you can get cheaper fabric on tinternet but you cant beat actually having a feel and see the proper colours - I have a suspicion I might be going there more often!

    Thanks for the advice.

    cheers
