And in other news from the Torygraph.
US recession will be less severe than feared, IMF says.
Same IMF article - different spin!In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0 -
I think this Forum should decide that all IMF reports are to be ignored until proven reliable.'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0

Interesting isn't it, how different spin can present the same news in such different ways.
Wonder why the Torygraph is so keen for America to be on the right path, though.... You think they'd want Obama to fall flat on his face, for political reasons.0 -

I don't believe there are really people who go around hoping others will fail, on this sort of scale anyway, I believe it on a smaller dsibling revalry type level. There are different ways of doing things, some believe theirs are riht and others are wrong: but you can thing something is not as 'good/fair/appropriate/' as your outlook but still hope it succeeds.
America is impossible to ignore in the City, and globally, in law, finance, war...all things that from our position ATM its better America ''survives'' and ''suceeds''. IMO.0 -
Erm...because Obama is left wing and the Torygraph isn't?
I'd love to share your optimistic view about the caring, sharing nature of politicians and journalists - but I don't.0 -

Obama is left ing for America. Thats quite different, really, to our ''tolerance level' in general press to ''left wing'' as set by our own European precidents!
Its not to do with caring/sharing...its to do with keeping our fingers crossed!0 -
Because of its position the IMF has something of a 'Duty of care' to the UK economy it has to put a positive spin on forecasts. I suspect it is for this reason rather than their awful forecasting that when their forecasts are revised it is consistently downwards.0

Conversely, you'd think the Grauniad would want Obama to succeedIn case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0 -
Very true.
Puzzling, isn't it.
What's your answer as to the logic behind the spin?0 -

There arent really any left wing American presidents. Perhaps more than elsewhere the US heads of states are in obvious lock step with the status quo, just by virtue of the amount of money you need to run a campaign. let alone win one.
Obama is pro Israel, very conservative about Mid East policy, Nato, pro-military expansion into Pakistan, US financial hegemony, vast tax payer funded corporate welfare payments, small government, anti-liberalisation of drugs, and cautious on climate change.
Much like Bush really. And all policies the Telegraph and its readership find most agreeable.0
