CCJ Help Needed Pls!!

About a month ago I received a CCJ form for a debt of £2000, I completed the expenditure form and sent it back with an offer of £40 per month. This is the max I can afford as I am on benefits at the moment and I also have another CCJ which I am paying at £40 per month so I am really leaving myself very short but I want to get these cleared asap. However today I received the letter back saying that the client has rejected my offer and that I must pay £168 per month!!! How can they ask for such an astronomical amount, there is no way I can afford that but I really don't want to go to court as it scares the hell out of me. If I send it back saying I can't pay this much, will I have to go to court?

  • if you go to court, and tell the judge, (don't be scared about going to court, it not like on the TV Judge John Deed and all that) it's just a small mediation room that used, and believe me nearly all the Judges are very sympathic to people who find themselves in Debt, and you may have the Judgement go better for you to make sure you can afford the £40.00 offered, THE JUDGE decides Not the Client. Good Luck

Maximum Debt £33k in 2007  all on CC's (I know, lesson learned; never consolidate and not cut up the cards!)
Now completely debt free, but it was a double edged sword :(

Many thanks for your quick response and kind words but is there no way I can contest this without going to court? Why would the court have allowed them to get a judgement for this amount when they can see what my incomings and outgoings are? Or did they do this in order to force me to go to court?

Sorry if I seem a bit paranoid but I am worried sick and the thought of going to court makes it even worse.

I've replied to your PM ;)
Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.

All information given by myself is offered informally and without prejudice - if in doubt seek help from a qualified and insured professional
