Dressmaking query

I have some templates for sewing patterns but have no tissue paper to make them from.
Does anyone know where I can get tissue paper that is suitable for making patterns or have any other tips. I thought newspaper would have been okay but the print may stain the fabric.
Keep on trucking!

I use the tissue paper you can get in Smith's for gift wrapping, it's fine for patterns. However the sheets aren't always wide enough so you need to tape them together. Magic tape is useful for this as you can reposition it if you get crumples in the paper plus you can draw on it
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

You can use newspaper - it's never stained for me :D Alternatively, thin lining paper (wallpaper) is good ;)

If you need to be able to trace a pattern through it, a roll of geaseproof/baking paper has worked for me quite well in the past.

Thankyou for all your ideas. I have some lining paper in the loft. I might get some tissue though as on ebay it seems quite cheap and I would be able to see through it. I was not sure if that sort of tissue would work but you have given me the confidence to try some.

john Lewis sell the Burda tissue paper that is wide enough - or did last time i needed some but it's pretty fragile. If its a pattern you are going to use again and again then it's worth considering using non-iron interfacing as its stronger ... or iron interfacing onto the tissue pattern

I have used a wide roll of tracing paper from smiths - most of the pattern peices should fit widthwise and if not you can tape bits together

I love the idea of ironing interfacing onto the pattern pieces, I've painfully traced many patterns onto non-iron interfacing but never thought to iron them onto the sticky stuff, thanks stefejb it's going to make my life easier.

I bought some Burda tissue paper from Ebay, it didn't cost that much and you get loads. It is REALLY wide too. Well worth it.

I have received some tissue from ebay. The pieces are a bit small but I can stick them together. I wish I'd got the bigger pieces now.

I got a great big wide roll of tissue for dressmaking for a pound or two at Giesse Scampoli on Coventry Road in Birmingham ( on the retail park next to Morrisons right near Birmingham City ground.

In addition to patterns and haberdashery, there is a fabulous selection of fabrics.
