Best Nappies for Premature baby

Options
Hello,
What are the best nappies for a low birth weight baby? My daughter currently weighs 6lb 4oz but is long and skinny so I have a problem with nappies fitting her. I'm currently using pampers and huggies but I find that these are difficult to put on her and also slide off her bum (I'm sure in later life that having a small bum is a bonus but its no good for a parent who has to keep changing her babies clothing every night.... )

I'm not too bothered about the cost of the nappies as I will be using reusable ones once she reaches a suitable weight I just don't want to be woken up by a soggy baby

    Hi

My daughter weighed 5lb14oz when she was born and can remember having the same problem. However, I am sure that I have seen nappies specially for prem/small babies, your best bet would be somewhere like Mothercare or maybe even Boots. Maybe worth a phone call before you go, or maybe even ask your visiting midwife or health visitor?

She weighed 4lb 4oz at birth and now at six weeks old has put on 2lb :D . Oddly I didn't seem to have this problem when I was using huggies/pampers for her before  The boots low birth weight ones are good but I just wondered if there are any better ones.

Hi, I had twins 6 years ago both weighing under 4llbs and thankfully Pampers prem nappies were availabe (just for the record, my twins are now big hulks of attitude :rotfl: ).

you can still get them from here but they're very expensive.

I suggest you try the special care unit of your local hospita to see if they can supply them through their pharmacy service or what about your health visitor?

What about on prescription through your doctor?

BLISS deals specifically in neo-natal births and though your situation isn;t the same, I am sure they would be able to have details of stockists who sell smaller nappies.

Actually have just found this from theBliss site, hope it helps

 . She was born at 34 weeks and in the Norwich NICU for two weeks where they use pampers. I just can't figure out why they don't fit her now. Thanks for the information on tesco's I didn;t know they did low birth weight nappies. Now where did i leave my clubcard vouchers

  • Just to add my little bit of knowledge. My son was born @ 36 weeks weighing 3lb 5oz so i had to find nappies - well oh did as i had been in hospital from 29 weeks. He sent my mum on a trawl through town while he did the supermarkets and we used Pampers ones at first but then he found some early baby ones in Tesco and they were brilliant.

We found nappies to be the easiest to find tbh it was the clothes that was a problem because 4 years ago very few stocked prem baby wear fortunately all the major stores do a range now so there is much more choice.
