Have you tried checking the snowballing links to see the order and amount to pay your debts off? I can see you are paying the 0% ones, in the snowballing world, you are advised to pay off the higher rate interest ones, it does work honest!!

Any chance of cutting the £3 to the RNLI until you are back on your feet? I know people hate cutting out charity, but charity starts at home, and when your debt is paid off you can increase the amount to "pay back" the amount you want.

How is your job hunt going?? Have you thought of advertising in the local newsagent/local paper for self employed type work? (just don't forget to register if you work self employed as well so you aren't fined!)

Will give it some more thought.

Hi Murtle
Am considering giving up my donation to RNLI, i always think that it won't make much difference but in my current state it is.
The 0% loan is one of those where you get 6 months to pay it off or you then have to keep it for 3 years at some ridiculous interest rate like 29%. so i can't really reduce this payment and give it to another card.
Good news today though. I have just recently finished remortaging, and although i am waiting for my old mortage company to send me back the direct debit they took on Monday, i did received a cheque from the solicitors for a little bit of the difference so that can go towards my car service at the end of the month and the extra can come off a loan.
I am looking forward to checking my bank statement tonight - the first time for a long time, as i can start reducing the debt on my signature because the payments have started going out.

Hi Lem,
How are things going? Did you give any more thought to cancelling the PPI, because it seems to me that as you also have critical illness cover and redundancy protection, you're pretty well covered anyway and could usefully put that amount towards reducing the real debt.

Keep in touch

Hi Feej
I have cancelled the protection on my credit card, as i know that i should be able to afford the minimum payment at least if anything happens. I am getting set to change my signature as i have now made some more payments and by rearranging my mortgage this month i will have some spare cash to reduce the debt a bit more.
finally although i am still worrying about my debt, i can at least see the fact that it is reducing and will never again be as bad.

That's great, it sounds as if you're getting on top of the situation.

As murtle says, if you use one of the snowball calaulators you'll be able to work out a debt free date to go in your signature too.

Also (sorry - my brain's working slowly at the moment) have you tried www.uswitch.com to compare prices for your home phone and electric?

I used them last year and signed up to Atlantic - their best buy for our circumstances. I've just received a £44 credit (eqates to a month's electricity bill) for staying with them for a year, and will get another next year if I remain with them! :D They may not be an option for you, but hopefully you'll be able to improve on your current suppliers.

All the best,
